Digital Coach

RunDoyen Privacy Policy

Effective September 8, 2026

This policy covers RunDoyen Digital Coach and the RunDoyen Sync companion app for iPhone. RunDoyen is currently a supervised beta, so this describes what the product does today.

1. What RunDoyen Sync does

RunDoyen Sync is an iPhone companion app for runners in the RunDoyen coaching beta. With your permission, it reads running workouts you have already recorded and that are stored in Apple Health, and sends those workouts to your RunDoyen coaching account.

The point is simple: your coach can see what you actually ran instead of you typing it in.

The app reads from Apple Health. It writes to Apple Health in exactly one case: a Guided Run, described next.

Guided Runs. You can also ask the app to guide a planned run. When you tap Start Guided Run, your iPhone measures that run with GPS and speaks your workout out loud as you go. At the finish it saves the completed run, with its route, to Apple Health, so it reaches your coach the same way every other run does.

A Guided Run only ever happens because you started one. The app does not record, measure, or follow you at any other time.

2. Information we collect

Account information. The email address and password you use to sign in, so a workout can be attached to the right runner. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider.

Recorded running workouts. For each run you permit us to read: its start and end time, duration, distance, timezone, and its Apple Health identifier.

Health and fitness measurements from those workouts. Where your watch or app recorded them and Apple Health supplies them: heart rate, running speed, running power, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, and active energy. We request these only in connection with a recorded running workout.

Workout route, including precise location. Where your watch recorded a GPS route for a run and Apple Health supplies it, we read that route: latitude, longitude, and where available altitude, speed, course and accuracy.

Precise location during a Guided Run. While a Guided Run is in progress, the app uses your iPhone’s GPS to measure how far you have run: latitude, longitude, and where available altitude, speed, course and accuracy. This is what lets the run be recorded at all. It continues while your screen is locked or the app is in the background, because a run does not stop when you put your phone in a pocket.

RunDoyen Sync does not follow you around. Location is used only while a Guided Run you started is running, and it stops when that run ends. The app asks only for “While Using the App” location access and never for “Always”. Outside a Guided Run, route information only ever comes from a run you already recorded and chose to share through Apple Health.

Source and device provenance. The name of the app and device that recorded each workout, for example Garmin Connect or Apple Watch. We keep this so you can always see where a run came from, and so the same run is not counted twice.

We do not request sleep, heart rate variability, VO2 max, resting heart rate, body measurements, or clinical health records. We do not collect payment information in the beta.

3. What we do not treat as a run

Passive step counts and your general daily Walking + Running Distance are never imported as RunDoyen activities. Only discrete running workouts that you or your watch actually recorded are brought in.

This is built into how the app queries Apple Health, not left to a setting you have to find.

4. How we use this information

We use the information described above to:

  • show you the training you have completed;
  • compare what was prescribed against what you actually ran;
  • give your Digital Coach factual evidence of how a session was executed;
  • inform your future coaching and how your training adapts;
  • avoid importing the same activity twice;
  • operate, support and troubleshoot the sync service.

RunDoyen is a running coaching product. It is not a medical service, it does not provide medical advice, and nothing here is used for diagnosis or treatment.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal or health information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to track you across other apps or websites.

We do use a small number of service providers to run RunDoyen, for example hosting, database and authentication providers, and the AI provider that generates coaching text. They process this information on our behalf so the product can work, and only for that purpose.

Your RunDoyen coach and RunDoyen staff supervising the beta may see your training information in order to coach you and to support the beta.

We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety, rights or property of runners or of RunDoyen.

6. Apple Health

RunDoyen Sync reads information from Apple Health only after you grant permission, and only the categories listed in section 2. Reading and writing are separate permissions, asked at different times: reading when you first connect Apple Health, writing the first time you start a Guided Run.

Information we receive through Apple Health (HealthKit) is used solely to provide the health and fitness features you have authorized: recording your completed training and informing your coaching. It is never used for advertising, marketing, or any form of cross-app tracking, and it is never sold.

RunDoyen Sync writes to Apple Health in exactly one case: when you finish a Guided Run, it saves that one completed running workout and its GPS route. It asks for permission to do that the first time you start a Guided Run, and it writes nothing else. It does not write heart rate, energy, body measurements, or anything you did not record with it.

What it saves is what your phone measured. Your prescribed distance and target pace are never written into Apple Health as though you had run them.

Apple does not sponsor, endorse, or review RunDoyen. Apple Health and HealthKit are Apple products that RunDoyen Sync reads from, and writes your Guided Runs to, with your permission.

7. Storage and security

Information sent between the app and RunDoyen travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Your account and training information is stored with our hosting and database providers.

On your iPhone, the app stores your sign-in token in the iOS Keychain, which is the system location intended for credentials. Apart from that, it keeps only small sync bookkeeping locally, such as how far through your workout history it has read and when it last synced. No health data is cached on the phone for its own sake.

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. No service can promise perfect security, and we do not.

8. Your control over your information

Turn off Apple Health access. On your iPhone, open Settings, then Health, then Data Access & Devices, choose RunDoyen Sync, and turn off any category or all of them. You can also do this from the Health app under Sharing. The app stops receiving that information immediately.

Sign out. You can sign out inside RunDoyen Sync, or from your profile on the RunDoyen web app. Signing out removes the stored token from your phone and stops syncing.

Access or delete your data. There is no self-service delete button during the beta. Email us at info@rundoyen.com and ask for a copy of your information or for your account and its training data to be deleted, and we will handle it directly.

9. Children

RunDoyen is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, email us and we will remove it.

10. Changes to this policy

RunDoyen is in active development. If what we collect or how we use it changes, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top.
